At this very moment I´m installing linux on the same computer I´m writing this blog post from. The whole process is going to take 20-25 minutes. During that brief amount of time my chosen linux distribution is going to install the GNU/Linux operating system, a complete office suite, internet tools, multimedia tools, graphical programs, etc.
Just yesterday a made a full Windows XP install that took me 55 minutes to get only the operating system running. Installing the other stuff required at least 3 1/2 hours more. My boss had just installed Windows Vista in his Dell XPS M1710 laptop, and the process didn´t seem to have improved during the 5 years since Windows XP installs.
Paradoxically, now is simpler and faster to install GNU/Linux than to install Windows.
Oooops! Gotta go as the installation has finished. I can even take you a screenshot before rebooting into my new system.
